The Intruder: Final Pencil

Looks crazy, right. I had to do some Photoshopping on it to balance it out. I think for the most part it's as done as it'll ever be. So now I have to figure out how to ship this puppy without it getting, crushed, burned, stolen, manipulated, erased, and mauled.

Sketchbook No.1

Finally, I have a sketchbook! 30 years in the making...well if you want to be literal I suppose. The quest started with finding the perfect printer for the right price. Actually it started with friends cajoling me to put something out. Then to find a printer. Ever since Mike Mignola dropped the gauntlet for sketchbooks at San Diego Comicon years ago it's been a growing part of every comic artist's arsenal of goods. In that time there's been a lot of excellent books and a new found collectible market.

Luckily I found a printer who I absolutely love and the books look and feel really expensive.
The reality is you get a lot for $10.
They'll be debuting at Emerald City Comicon but you can order them in my store today. Maybe you know someone who'd like this if so TWEET it LIKE it or do what you have to to get the word out. And for a convincer here's a small selection of DOUBLE-PAGE spreads to wet your whistle.

Emerald City Comicon 2012

It's no secret that the EMERALD CITY COMICON is one of the very best shows in the country. I'm just lucky it's in my hometown and I can sleep in my own bed every night...unless there are better offers out there. HEY-YOOOO...ahem. You just have to fight my wife for the timeshare.
Anyway...I'll be sketching and selling goods, books and services all weekend long! It should be great fun as always and I look forward to seeing you there! :)
Also...my MONSTERS & DAMES image will be in the latest ECCC book that will be at the show.

Spiderman 1900s

I was commissioned to do a steampunk version of Spiderman. I threw the "Green Goblin" in as well for fun. Thought it would be interesting to show a rejiggered Mr. Punch mask to sell the idea of a goblin. Anyway it was interesting.

The Intruder

Once again, I've plowed through a bunch of stuff to get back to this. Today I'll start in earnest on the pencils and get the lighting down. It's only overwhelming when I think of it as a whole...though you kind of have to when you're planning a lighting pass. Just need to keep it consistent and guide the eye to what I want the viewer to see most. Will be looking through a lot of EC horror/sci-fi stuff today for sure.

What was kind of cool is that through the process of bluelining I was able to expand upon the story. The side of the ship was going to be torn open as per Hilary's suggestion but design-wise I could get it to work for me. I added a larger laser component instead, which killed one of the ships men. This underscores the mystery of whether the ship is attacking it's crew or if the crew-member really was an intruder. [cue thermion space music]

Still might do a quick piece to throw over to the fence to Hilary Barta who's waiting patiently to ink this behemoth.

Trampled

Talking with my Dad on the phone after he'd gone on a wild boar hunt. He was successful in his outing.

Jet City Comic Show 2012: Flyer

Got this done a couple weeks ago for the Jet City Comic Show. They wanted something dramatic and harrowing this year along with a recognizable character. I thought flying nazi gorillas might be fun too.

Slow is the Progress

Finally cleared my schedule to get back to this though I have another commission that just came in so there's that too. Tried out my new little Canon S100 though I had it on JPG mode. Need to switch over to RAW or both at least to give me some better editing choices.
